Turkish competition honors Iranian calligraphers

TEHRAN, April 17 (MNA) -- Iranian calligraphers won awards in the Nastaliq Section of the 8th International Calligraphy Competition.

Alireza Mohebi-Sheikhlari won the first place award of the section. Second place went to Qasem Memarzadeh-Ghafari IRAN and Mehdi Foruzandeh was awarded the third prize.

The competition from April 5 to 15 in Istanbul, Turkey was held by the Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA) which is affiliated with the Organization of Islamic Conferences.

Alireza Taljangani, Mohammadreza Rahimipur and Mostafa Rezaee received honorary mention at the competition.

This edition of the competition is dedicated to the late Syrian Calligrapher Muhammad Badawi al-Dirani (1894-1967). The calligraphy competition is organized periodically once every three years.
