Uzbekistan solicits Japanese investment+

TOKYO, April 22 Kyodo - The Uzbek government held a conference in Tokyo on Thursday to highlight its free economic zone and solicit Japanese firms' investment in the central Asian country on the occasion of Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister Elyor Ganiyev's visit to Japan.

Uzbekistan has ample room to absorb foreign investment on the back of robust
economic growth, forecast at 8.5 percent for this year, Ganiyev told the
meeting.
Ganiyev, who doubles as minister of foreign economic relations, investment and
trade, also said he expects Japanese companies to play a key role in
Uzbekistan.
A senior Uzbek official said the free industrial economic zone in Navoi, west
of Tashkent, frees companies from asset and profit taxes for a certain period
of time.
