Tehran to host APA political committee in mid-May

TEHRAN, May 1 (MNA) — The Iranian capital will host the meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly(APA)standing committee on political affairs on May 12 to 14, 2010.

Representatives from 41 APA member parliaments are invited to participate in the three-day event to discuss and deliberate on major issues of peace and security in Asia and ways to enhance cooperation between APA member parliaments and their governments in Asia.

A study of the APA secretary general’ report on the Declaration of Principles of Friendship and Cooperation in Asia and adoption of a draft resolution will be on the agenda of the relevant sub-committee.

The participants at the conference will be expected to adopt a draft resolution condemning the violations of international humanitarian law in Palestine and the war crimes committed by the Zionist regime in Gaza including the military attacks on residential areas in Gaza; construction of illegal settlements in the occupied territories; unlawful excavations under Al-Aqsa mosque; attempts for confiscation and transformation of Muslim and Christian holy places to Jewish heritage; and attempts for mass deportation of Palestinian people from the West Bank.

An ad-hoc working group meeting on information and communication technology (ICT), as recommended during the meeting of the APA Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs in March in Palau, will also be held on the sidelines of the conference.
