Iran celebrates Intl. Workers’ Day
TEHRAN, May 2 (MNA) -- Iran commemorated International Workers’ Day on Saturday.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad delivered a speech in Tehran on International Workers’ Day in which he praised Iranian workers for their great contribution to the national economy.
He also pledged that the government would create many job opportunities in the current Iranian calendar year (began on March 21) in order to assuage anxiety over unemployment among members of the working class.
He said his administration has formulated a number of initiatives to boost employment and make up for the years of rising unemployment.
“God willing, this year will be a year of job creation in the country. The administration is committed to increasing employment opportunities to such an extent that there will not be any distress over lack of employment opportunities in the nation,” Ahmadinejad stated.
He also said that labor and diligence are prerequisites for economic prosperity, adding, “Even if all conditions were optimal for a nation, without hard work, that nation would not achieve much.”
He went on to say that the enemies of the Islamic Republic are envious of the country’s talented workforce and abundant natural resources and are frustrated about the country’s national cohesion.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Ahmadinejad stated that Iran will welcome any gesture of cooperation by other countries and added that forming alliances is a much better course of action than confrontation.
The era of the monopolization of the decision-making process is over, and now every country should have a say in the management of global affairs, and Iran is prepared to make its contribution to the management of global affairs, the president noted.
