10th meeting of ICAO to commence in Tehran
TEHRAN, May 3 (MNA) – The 10th regional meeting of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) will open in Tehran today, the spokesman of the Iran Civil Aviation Organization said.
According to Reza Jafarzadeh, Middle Eastern countries including Iraq, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, the UAE, Jordan, Yemen, and Lebanon are participating the three-day event.
Supervision over flights at altitudes of 29,000 to 41,000 foot and equipping planes with more precise altimeters and inspecting their flying reliability are among the main issues to be discussed during the meeting, Jafarzadeh explained.
ICAO is a specialized agency of the United Nations which codifies the principles and techniques of international air navigation and fosters the planning and development of international air transport to ensure safe and orderly growth.
The ICAO Council adopts standards and recommended practices concerning air navigation, its infrastructure, flight inspection, prevention of unlawful interference, and facilitation of border-crossing procedures for international civil aviation.
In addition, the ICAO defines the protocols for air accident investigation followed by transport safety authorities in countries signatory to the Convention on International Civil Aviation, commonly known as the Chicago Convention.
