Mini Dublin Group visits drug rehabilitation center in Iran

TEHRAN, May 4 (MNA) – Mini Dublin Group envoys paid a visit to the Qezelhesar Penitentiary on Sunday to examine Iran’s activities on drug prevention, treatment, and care.

The Qezelhesar Penitentiary is located in Karaj, 30 kilometers west of Tehran.

Delegates from Australia, Austria, Italy, France, Germany, Japan, Sweden, England, and Russia were among the visitors.

In the drug rehabilitation center the patients undergo Methadone therapy.

Methadone is a drug that is often given to people who are trying to stop taking heroin.

The Iranian National Drug Control Headquarters had arranged the visit on the request of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime coordinator.

According to the public relations office of INDCH, the envoys toured the facility and were briefed on the rehabilitation and detoxification process of the drug addicts.

At the end of the meeting, the UN envoy expressed his appreciation for Iran’s considerable and praiseworthy efforts to combat drug addiction and drug trafficking.

The Dublin Group is a consultation group that discusses global, regional and country-specific problems of illicit drug production, trafficking and demand reduction and offers solutions.

The Dublin Group operates on three levels: Central level, Regional level, and Local level (Mini Dublin Group).
