Ahmadinejad meets UN chief in New York
TEHRAN, May 5 (MNA) – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon have discussed regional and international issues on the sidelines of the NPT review conference in New York.
Ahmadinejad flew to New York on Sunday to attend the 2010 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), which started on May 3.
Ahmadinejad said that Tehran is still ready to resume talks on the nuclear fuel swap issue.
He also said that Iran is interested in interacting with the European Union on different issues.
Ban Ki-moon described Ahmadinejad’s remarks in the opening ceremony of the NPT review conference as constructive, saying that Iranian president’s presence in the conference was important and it showed that the Islamic Republic attaches great importance to global issues.
The UN secretary general also expressed hope that talks between Iran and the 5+1 group (the U.S., Britain, China, Russia, France, and Germany) would bear fruit.
