"Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" - results for six months
Astana, 10 July 2008, Khabar - The Nationalised "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" company has announced the results for the first six months of the year with an income of over 208 billion tenge.
According to specialists, during the next 7 years, railway demand will double. However, degradation of rolling stock belonging to "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" stands at 70% and so this year, it is planned to buy 5000 freight wagons with the problem of a lack of passenger carriages to be solved as part of the seperate developmentprogramme for passenger transport.
Askar Mamim, president, JSC "National Company "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy": - As part of this programme, we need to renew the passenger transportinfrastructure and buy 1500 new passenger carriages.
Askar Mamin defined the results as satisfactory although the heads of several railway departments were not able to fulfill their mission so "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" will see some changes in this respect. Askar Mamin has asked the head of the company to create a special development programme for 2020 in terms of a reformation of the railways. A special committee, which will help to fight corruption, was also created in the company. It was announced at the meeting that JSC "Kaz-tran-service" is to create a joint ventures on container transportation with China, Russia and Germany which will allow the development of Kazakhstan's transit potential and, accordingly, bring extra income to the national transport company.
