Kazakhstan is strengthening its transit potential

Almaty, 10 July 2008, Khabar - Kazakhstan-China gas pipe line construction launched.

Kazakhstan is strengthening its transit potential as the construction of the Kazakhstan-China gas pipe line was launched in the Almaty region. The new system is expected to supply Turkmen and Uzbek gas to China and South Asian countries. The length of the Kazakhstan section of the pipeline will reach 1300 kilometres to link Shymkent and Khorgos. The gas pipeline system will allow Kazakhstan to receive transit income and toprovide the Republic's southern regions with gas.

Sauat Mynbayev, Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources of RK: - First of all, we will be earning money as a transit state and the tariff will cover all construction expenses and will provide additional money tothe budget. 30 billion cubic metres of transit gas represents serious money.

Moreover, some 10 billion cubic metres of gas are assigned to Kazakhstan.

The construction work is being equally divided between the Kazakh and Chinese sides with the two countries to donate three billion US dollars each. The construction is also separated into 5 phases with the first gas to be pumped through the pipeline in 2010 when the first phase of the gas mainis expected to be commissioned.

Chzhan Gobao, Official representative of Chinese government: - The construction of the gas pipe line will boost the development of Kazakhstan's industry and the development of trade and economic relations between the two states and the whole of Central Asia. This gas pipeline isanother bridge of friendship and partnership.

According to Sauat Mynbayev, the participation of the Republic in the project is possible thanks to the country's multi-sided policy. The Minister added that the construction of the gas pipeline will also provide a powerful boost to the Republic's gas industry and the whole of the economy in general. (Khabar Agency)
