Fuel swap offers by Brazil, Turkey are practicable: Iran
TEHRAN, May 9 (MNA) – Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said the offers made by Brazil and Turkey for nuclear fuel swap are viable, but the swap should be carried on the Iranian territory.
“Some countries like Brazil and Turkey have made proposals for nuclear fuel swap which are practicable and it shows that we can reach an agreement,” Mehmanparast told the Mehr News Agency on Saturday.
However, the spokesman did not give any details about the offers made by Brazil and Turkey.
He explained that the time and place for fuel swap and the amount of fuel should be decided, adding the sides’ viewpoints about the time and the amount of the nuclear fuel are close to each other.
On the place for carrying out the fuel swap, he said the swap should be done on Iran’s soil.
Mehmanparast went on to say “we have decided to have meetings with the parties to discuss about the technical details of the fuel swap, and if the confidence is built, the swap will be carried out.”
“We are optimistic that we can reach an agreement,” he added.
Iran has repeatedly said it is ready to swap its low-enriched uranium for high-grade uranium on its soil to supply the Tehran research reactor which produces isotopes for cancer patients.
