“Calf” bronze statue reported missing in Tehran
TEHRAN, May 9 (MNA) -- One more bronze statue was reported missing in Tehran here on Saturday.
The bronze statue of a “Calf” was located in the courtyard of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Tehran. It was donated to the university by a Swiss sculptor.
The statue was heisted during the Noruz holidays from March 21 to April 2, and the theft was reported to the police the same time, director of the Security Department of the University of Tehran Mostafa Khosravi told the Persian service of Mehr.
Over the past few weeks, eleven bronze statues have been reported stolen from the urban environs of Tehran. The serial thefts of bronze statues have been widely covered in the media.
The statue was a mascot for the faculty and has been located there since the time of the school’s establishment, Khosravi said.
The Security Department of the University of Tehran has taken serious action toward protecting the rest of the statues across the city and at the universities.
The busts of two leaders of the Iranian Constitutional Movement, Sattar Kahn in Sattar Khan Street and Baqer Khan in Shahr-Ara Street, and the bust of Iranian master of intarsia art Mohammad-Hossein Sani’khatam at Mellat Park as well as two other sculptures from the courtyard of the Iranian Artists Forum are among the artwork pilfered during the Noruz holidays.
