No Tsunami threat to Indian mainland due to Sumatra quake:Govt

TSUNAMI

New Delhi, May 9 (PTI) The Indian government said there
was no immediate Tsunami threat to country's mainland and the
Andaman and Nicobar islands in view of a strong 7.2-magnitude
quake which hit the Indonesian province of Aceh on Sunday.
The Centre although said it has advised concerned state
governments to take adequate precautionary measures in order
to mitigate any disaster arising from the alert.
The quake struck at a depth of 30 kilometres and 66
kilometres southwest of Meulaboh district at 12:59 pm (1129
IST), according to the local Meteorological and Geophysics
agency.
"There is no immediate Tsunami threat to Indian mainland
and Andaman and Nicobar islands due to the earthquake in
Sumatra. However, Ministry of Home Affairs advises state
governments to take appropriate precautionary measures," a
ministry spokesperson said. PTI ACB
