Iran's Banks, Oil Ministry recorded highest budget diversion
TEHRAN, May 10 (MNA) – The Supreme Audit Court Director, Abdolreza Rahmani-Fazli, announced on Sunday that oil, economy, and interior ministries as well as banks had the highest deviation from their allocated budgets last year (ended on March 20, 2010).
"Last year, Oil Ministry imported $5.4 billion worth of gasoline… while the Majlis had not issued the permit for fuel importation," the SAC chief told a press conference.
Rahmani-Fazli also said the ratio of outstanding debts to granted loans rose to 5.24 percent in 2009 from 3.9 percent in 2005.
He said the figure should not exceed five percentage points based on international standards.
The official also said some 500 trillion rials (around $50 billion) in outstanding debts to banks have not yet been settled which is tantamount to the total liquidity in the society.
The chief financial investigator argued that about 70 percent of violations originate from lack of information and unfamiliarity with the law.
