Uniqlo operator to raise no. of China outlets to 1,000 in 10 yrs+

SHANGHAI, May 13 Kyodo -
Fast Retailing Co., the operator of the Uniqlo casual clothing chain, will aim
to raise the number of its outlets in China to 1,000 over the next 10 years,
its Chairman and President Tadashi Yanai said Thursday.
Speaking at a news conference in Shanghai, he said Fast Retailing anticipates
sales in China will reach 1 trillion yen as a result of the planned expansion.
The comments came ahead of the Japanese firm's opening in the city on Saturday
of a store with a floor space of about 3,600 square meters, the largest for any
Uniqlo outlet.
Fast Retailing launched its first directly operated Uniqlo outlet in China in
Shanghai in 2002, and has since boosted the number of stores to a total of 64
in the mainland China and Hong Kong by May 1.
