Russia’s credibility at stake if it fails on missile delivery to Iran

TEHRAN, May 19 (MNA) – If Russia reneges on an agreement to deliver the S-300 missiles system to Iran, it will severely damage its credibility, Iranian top lawmaker Alaeddin Boroujerdi stated on Tuesday.

“If Moscow, under pressure from the United States or the Zionist regime, decides to withhold the delivery of S-300 missiles to Iran, this will severely call its strength and reasoning into question,” said Boroujerdi, the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee chairman.

Bourujerdi pointed out that countries’ credibility in the international arena is inextricably linked to meeting their commitments.

“The Russians have acted very badly” with respect to the delivery of S-300 missiles, the former diplomat noted.

He stressed that Russia has officially signed contract with Iran and should fulfill its commitment.

Boroujerdi also warned Russian officials that the delivery of S-300 missiles might take place at a time when they are of “no value to the Islamic Republic given its missile capabilities.”

Russian officials have claimed that the delay in the delivery of the S-300 missiles is due to a technical problem. But Moscow recently delivered 15 batteries of S-300 surface-to-air missile systems to China.
