Rupee gains 13 paise against dollar in opening trade
Mumbai, May 20 (PTI) The Indian rupee appreciated by 13
paise to 46.23 per dollar in the opening trade Thursday on
fresh capital inflow into equities by foreign funds.
The rupee had closed at a three-month low of 46.36/37
against the dollar, after tanking 77 paise, the biggest
single-day fall in more than 14 months in yesterday's trading.
Forex dealers said fresh capital inflow into equities by
foreign funds and stronger other currencies against the
dollar, mainly provided support to the rupee.
Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange index, Sensex, rose
by 179.56 points, or 1.09 per cent, to 16,588.05 points in the
opening trade Thursday. PTI
