CAG to audit UN World Food Prog's accounts

Shimla, May 20 (PTI) The country's top auditor
Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has been selected by
United Nations World Food Programme for a six-year contract to
audit its books.
"The World Foods Programme (WFP) needed to have an
external agency to do their audit. We were invited to bid for
the audit and against bids from all other countries we have
been selected," Comptroller and Auditor General of India Vinod
Rai said here.
However, Rai added that a formal announcement for the
contract is likely to be made in June, when the UN body's
board is scheduled to meet.
Among the total nine bids which were received from
various countries, five were shortlisted and three were called
for interaction including India's CAG.
The other two countries in the top three were Philippines
and South Africa.
However, Rai declined to give any financial details about
the contract.
The World Food Programme (WFP), a part of United Nations
