Iran to notify IAEA of nucelar deal
TEHRAN, May 23 (MNA) – Iran will submit a letter to the IAEA chief Yukiya Amano on Monday to formally inform the UN watchdog body about the Tehran declaration.
According to the declaration, which was signed by Iran, Brazil, and Turkey on May 17, Tehran agreed to send 1,200kg of its LEU to Turkey in exchange for 120kg of 20 percent-enriched uranium.
Under the Article 6 of the declaration Iran has undertaken to notify the International Atomic Energy Agency in writing of its nuclear swap agreement with Turkey and Brazil within seven days following the date of this declaration.
“Upon the positive response of the Vienna Group (the U.S., Russia, France and the IAEA) further details of the exchange will be elaborated on through a written agreement and proper arrangement between Iran and the Vienna Group that specifically committed themselves to delivering 120 kilograms of fuel needed for the Tehran research reactor,” part of the agreement reads.
The Iranian Supreme National Security Council announced the letter will be submitted to Amano by Tehran’s ambassador to the IAEA, Ali Asghar Soltanieh.
Soltanieh will be accompanied by the Turkish and Brazilian representatives while meeting Amano to hand over the letter.
