‘Tehran declaration could provide grounds for nuclear cooperation’

ISTANBUL, May 24 (MNA) – The Tehran declaration could provide necessary grounds for developing peaceful nuclear cooperation, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said on Sunday.

According to the declaration signed by Iran, Brazil, and Turkey on May 17, Tehran agreed to send 1,200kg of its LEU to Turkey in exchange for 120kg of 20 percent-enriched uranium to power Tehran’s medical research reactor.

The nuclear agreement has been welcomed by non-aligned and independent countries, Mehmanparast told Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Burak Ozugergin in Istanbul on Sunday.

Mehmanparast, who traveled to Turkey at the head of a media delegation on Sunday, also discussed media relations with his Turkish counterpart.

The two sides called for expansion of media cooperation between Iran and Turkey.

For his part, Ozugergin highlighted Iran’s great potential in the region, saying everything is ready for independent countries including Iran, Turkey, and Brazil to boost their cooperation.

Iran’s declaration was also discussed in the meeting.
