Red Cross to honor Iranian war photographer
TEHRAN, May 25 (MNA) -- The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) will pay tribute to the Iranian war photographer Mehdi Mon’em during a ceremony in Tehran.
The ceremony will be held at the Silk Road Gallery on Tuesday which is currently hosting a photo exhibit by Mon’em under the title of “War Victims”.
Mon’em also published his photos in a book with the same title in which he portrays civilians victimized during Iran-Iraq war (1980-88).
ICRC officer to Tehran John Strick Van Linschoten described the photos as humanistic and unbiased on the notion of war which is the perspective of the Red Cross toward this concept.
He expressed his hope that the exhibit would be held in the five western border provinces of Iran which still have landmines, as the photos would acquaint residents with the potential threat to themselves posed by landmines.
Strick Van Linschoten said that he hopes to hold the exhibit in other countries to convey Mon’em’s humanistic message to the world.
The gallery is located at 112 Lavasani St. in the northern Kamranieh neighborhood, Tehran.
