Iran plans to launch 3 more satellites
TEHRAN, May 26 (MNA) -- Iran plans to launch three domestically-manufactured satellites into orbit by late March 2011.
The three satellites, named Tolou, Navid, and Mesbah 2, will be launched from domestically-manufactured satellite launchers, the deputy director of Iran’s Space Systems Industry, Mahdi Mousavi Badjani, announced on Monday.
However, in some instances, foreign satellite launchers will be used to launch Iranian satellites, Badjani told the Mehr News Agency.
He went on to say that the Tolou satellite will probably be launched by the Simorgh satellite carrier.
The Tolou is a remote sensing satellite, the Navid will carry out research, and the Mesbah 2 is a telecommunications satellite.
According to Badjani, a number of other important space projects will be conducted until the end of the current Iranian calendar year on March 20, 2011.
Asked about the unclear status of the Zohreh satellite, he said the Iranian Communications and Information Technology Ministry is working on the satellite, adding that the Zohreh satellite is different from other satellites in terms of its applications.
In 2005, Iran and Russia signed an agreement on the design, testing, and launch of the Zohreh satellite.
The agreement was signed by Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Iran Telecommunications Company Ahmad Moqaddam, the deputy director of the Russian Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos), and the managing director of Avia Exports of Russia.
The satellite will have 12 transponders, which will give it the capability to broadcast radio and television programs throughout the country and to facilitate telephone communications, fax links, and data transmissions.
