Iran outplays New Zealand in Asian Girls' Volleyball Championship
TEHRAN, May 26 (MNA) -- Iran defeated New Zealand in the 8th Asian Youth Girls' Volleyball Championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Tuesday.
The Persians defeated the Kiwis 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-14) at the Cheras Badminton Stadium.
Iran lost to China and Taiwan in the group stage and beat Singapore and New Zealand in the next stages. Iran will play Vietnam on Thursday for ninth place.
In the previous seven editions, China claimed the title four times and Japan won the championship three times.
The winning team will join host Singapore as well as Egypt, Belgium, Peru and the yet to be decided Norceca continental champions for the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore this August.
The top two of the competition qualify for next year’s World Championship in Peru.
