‘Iran will not brook selective implementation of nuclear deal’
TEHRAN, May 30 (MNA) -- Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani has stated that the Tehran nuclear declaration should not be implemented selectively.
“The red line with regard to the declaration issued by Iran, Brazil, and Turkey is the adoption of a selective approach in its implementation,” Larijani said at a press conference in Tehran on Saturday.
Commenting on the recent remarks of U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, in which she said the Tehran declaration had several shortcomings, Larijani said all critics should pinpoint exactly what they think is wrong with the Tehran declaration and avoid issuing vague statements.
Asked about Russia’s stance toward Iran, the Iranian parliament speaker said that Russia’s position has taken a new turn since Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki held talks with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, and Iranian Supreme National Security Council Secretary Saeed Jalili spoke by phone with Russian National Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev.
Larijani also advised Russia to take the interests of both countries into consideration.
If the contracts that Tehran and Moscow have signed on nuclear, defense, and economic issues were to be terminated, it would be disadvantageous to both countries’ national interests, he noted.
On the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference, which ended in New York on May 28, he stated that its most outstanding weakness was that no timetable was set for total nuclear disarmament.
The Zionist regime, which has never signed the NPT, refuses to join the treaty, and is seeking to dominate the Middle East region, should have been addressed more seriously at the NPT review conference, he added.
