Tehran nuclear pact leaves no excuse for West

TEHRAN, May 30 (MNA) – Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast says the Tehran agreement on nuclear fuel swap leaves no excuse for the parties who should supply the Tehran research reactor with fuel rods.

According to the Tehran declaration, Iran has agreed to ship 1200 kilograms of its LED to Turkey to be exchanged for 20 percent enriched nuclear fuel to power the Tehran reactor, but some powers claim there are deficiencies in the nuclear deal brokered by Turkey and Brazil.

“After release of the Tehran declaration, no excuse for not supplying the Tehran research reactor (with nuclear fuel) is acceptable, and hopefully the Vienna Group (U.S., Russia and France and the IAEA) will agree with the declaration,” Mehmanparast said on Saturday.

The UN’s nuclear watchdog chief and the West have no option but accepting the deal, the diplomat noted.

He said the West has been surprised by the Iran-Brazil-Turkey initiative and is seeking to exert pressure on Tehran by passing sanctions resolution against Iran.

On Russia’s stance toward the nuclear deal, the spokesman said Iran expected Moscow to take an acceptable position toward the agreement, however, it seems that after President Ahmadinejad’s criticism of Russia and negotiations between the two countries’ senior officials, the Russian side would take a positive step in this regard.

Vienna Group will not oppose agreement: MP

Alaeddin Borujerdi, chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy committee, is of the opinion that the Vienna Group will not reject the nuclear fuel swap deal.

“Opposing the Tehran declaration will deal a severe blow to the credibility of the members of the Vienna Group, so they will not disapprove of the declaration,” Borujerdi told the Mehr News Agency on Saturday.

Rejecting the agreement will throw their sincerity into question, he opined.
