China's Wen arrives in Tokyo on official visit+
TOKYO, May 30 Kyodo -
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived in Tokyo on Sunday evening on a three-day
official trip.
Wen will hold talks with Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama on Monday,
which follow a trilateral summit meeting that also involved South Korean
President Lee Myung Bak, on the South Korean island of Jeju over the weekend.
Wen is the first Chinese leader to make an official visit to Japan since
President Hu Jintao in May 2008.
In Monday's talks, Hatoyama and Wen are expected to discuss disputes over
China's recent activities in the sea around Japan, including pursuit by a
Chinese marine survey ship of a Japan Coast Guard vessel, according to sources
familiar with Japan-China relations.
They are likely to sign a new bilateral initiative aimed at ensuring food
safety after progress has been made in investigations into a tainted
Chinese-made dumpling case that sickened 10 people in Japan in December 2007
and January 2008. In March, Beijing announced the arrest of a suspect related
to the dumpling incident.
Also on the agenda will likely be the sinking in March of a South Korean
warship, for which North Korea has been found to be responsible by an
international team of investigators, the sources said.
