Lula to Ahmadinjead: Iran can fully rely on Brazil’s help

TEHRAN, June 1 (MNA) – Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has said Tehran can entirely rely on Brasilia for its help and cooperation with regard to the Tehran declaration.

According to the declaration, signed by Iran, Turkey, and Brazil on May 17, Tehran would ship 1200 kilograms of its low-enriched uranium to Turkey to be exchanged for 120 kilograms of 20 percent enriched nuclear fuel to power the Tehran research reactor, which produces radioisotopes for cancer treatment.

In a phone conversation with President Mahmoud Ahmadinjead, Lula said he will hold talks with the world leaders to win support for the Tehran declaration and continue further efforts in this regard.

He also said he plans to contact French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, and Chinese President Hu Jintao this week.

He went on to say that in a recent summit held in Brazil, all presidents who attended the conference expressed their support for the declaration.

The Brazilian leader also described the declaration as effectual, saying it has put the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council in a very “sensitive situation”.

And amid the current situation, the continuation of cooperation and coordination between the two countries can be useful and fruitful, he added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he said that the New York Summit in which President Ahmadinejad delivered a speech was a great success for Iran.

Both presidents stressed the need to continue talks about the declaration to achieve the desired goal.

Ahmadinejad thanked Lula for making efforts to implement the declaration and adopting a courageous stance in that regard.

He said all countries, which favor peace and justice, have expressed their support for the declaration.

Ahmadinejad also stated that the two countries, in cooperation with each other, could take constructive steps to serve the interests of their countries and other nations around the world.

The Tehran declaration was a beginning of a great global measure to promote peace, justice, and security in the world, he opined.

He reiterated that Iran and Brazil will together pursue the efforts aimed at promoting peace and justice.
