Iran urges Italy to adopt independent stance on Iran issue

TEHRAN, June 2 (MNA) – Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani has called on the Italian government to take a “just and independent” policy toward Iran’s nuclear issue.

“The Islamic Republic has taken another positive step to build confidence about its nuclear issue (a reference to the Tehran agreement on nuclear fuel swap), and it is expected that great civilizations and friendly states like Italy take a just and independent stance toward Iran’s nuclear issue,” Larijani said in a meeting with Italian Ambassador in Tehran Alberto Bradanini.

Larijani also said Iran’s relationship with Italy is primarily founded on the rich cultural affinities.

The Iranians have always held a positive view toward the Italian nation and culture, Larijani, a scholar-turned politician, told ambassador Bradanini.

Larijani went on to say that Iran’s parliament supports expansion of ties with Rome in political, parliamentary, cultural, commercial, and economic areas.

Larijani also invited the Italian foreign minister to visit Iran.

Italian ambassador, for his part, said what is going on in Iran differs markedly from what is said in the international media outlets.

He described Iran and Italy as two nations gifted with culturally-rich civilizations. He also said Iran and Italy enjoy formidable relationship.
