OIC to hold emergency meeting on Freedom Flotilla attack

TEHRAN, June 3 (MNA) -- The Organization of the Islamic Conference will be holding an emergency meeting in Saudi Arabia on Sunday to discuss measures to take against Israel for its attack on the Gaza-bound Freedom Flotilla.

Turkey called on the OIC to hold the emergency meeting to condemn Israel for its “inhumane” attack on the flotilla of ships, which were attempting to deliver humanitarian assistance to Gaza.

The Israeli military attacked the Freedom Flotilla in international waters in the Mediterranean Sea early on May 31, killing at least 19 people on board the six ships, mostly Turkish nationals, and injuring about 50 others.

The foreign ministers of OIC member states will attend the emergency meeting in Jeddah, an OIC spokesman told the Turkish daily newspaper Today’s Zaman.

OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said on Monday that the Israeli attack on the Freedom Flotilla was a breach of international law and called on the United Nations to investigate the issue from various angles.
