Tehran mayor urges Ban Ki-moon to take action on Gaza

TEHRAN, June 7 (MNA) – Tehran Mayor Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf has sent a letter to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon urging the UN to take action on Israel’s attack on the Freedom Flotilla.

The global community, especially Muslims, expect the international organizations, particularly the United Nations, to take effective action beyond issuing statement and expressing disapproval,” Qalibaf said in his letter.

Following is an excerpt of the letter:

What happened a few days ago, when the Zionist forces attacked the convoy which was carrying humanitarian aid for Gaza’s people, was an obvious violation of human rights and was an example that proved that Zionist regime resorts to terrorist actions (to achieve its goals).

I, as Tehran mayor and an Iranian citizen, ask you as the UN secretary general to condemn this action. The UN is now faced with a decisive test and how it deals with this issue will profoundly affect the international public opinion about the status of the UN.
