Iran's “Macondo” receives grand prize at Finnish festival

TEHRAN, June 7 (MNA) -- “Macondo”, an Iranian play directed by Azadeh Ansari received the Imatra Award in the Puppet Section at the 7th International Black and White Theatre Festival.

The festival was held from May 25 to 29 in Imatra, Finland with the theme of “To be or not to be”.

“Macondo”, which was performed in English, competed at the gala with works from different countries including Russia, Sweden, Denmark, France, and Australia.

“The secretary of the festival proposed a joint performance by Iran, Finland and Azerbaijan and we are still deciding about this proposal,” Ansari said on Sunday.

Written by Arash Parsakhu and directed by Ansari, “Macondo” is an adaptation of “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

The play features the story of a supernatural being in the form of an old man who arrives in an imaginary town, and the strange events that subsequently take place that influence the lives of the residents.
