Iranian troupe to perform play on Rumi in ECO countries
TEHRAN, June 12 (MNA) -- Mohammad Hatami’s play on the life of Rumi will go on stage in ECO member countries as well as in different Iranian cities in the near future.
Entitled “Maqam of Love”, the play is a review of the life of Rumi before and after the arrival by Shams inspired his poems.
The troupe travelled to Syria on June 11 to give their first foreign performance, Hatami told the Persian service of MNA.
“We will also have performances in Shiraz and Khoy after the Syrian performance. The play will go on stage at Tehran’s Iranshahr Hall in autumn,” he added.
The play will also be performed on the anniversary of Rumi’s death in mid-December at the Seb-i Aruz this year, he mentioned.
Seb-i Aruz is considered his “wedding night”, the night he departed this earthly life, and was finally united in love with the Divine.
The play is written by Babak Safijani and Mohammad Amir-Yarahmadi is the play’s dramaturge.
Roya Nonahali, Kazem Hajir-Azad, Mohammad Hatami, Behruz Mirlu, Behzad Javedanfar, Elham Dehqan and Mahgol Mehr are in the cast of the play.
Veteran actress, Roya Nonahali returns to stage after a seven year hiatus. She acted in Mohsen Hosseini’s “Orpheus”.
The play is cosponsored by the ECO Cultural Institute and Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art.
