Iran, Syria to establish joint university
TEHRAN, June 12 (MNA) -- Officials of Syria’s Tishreen University and Iran’s Tarbiat Modarres University discussed the establishment of a joint university in the near future.
The Vice Chancellor for Education of the Tarbiat Modarres University Abolfazl Hassani accompanied by an academic delegation last week met with Syrian officials at the Ministry of Higher Education in the port of Latakia, Syria.
They discussed a previous agreement for establishing an Iranian-Syrian university named Farabi in the northwest Syrian principal port city of Latakia.
Iran’s technical committees visited the land dedicated for construction of the university and assessed options to establish seven faculties, student dormitories and professors’ residences.
Syria proposed a three-phase development of the project; the first phase would establish the initial faculty and phases two and three would cover the six remaining faculties.
The Tarbiat Modarres University representing Iran’s Ministery of Science, Research and Technology, and Tishreen University representing its Syrian ministerial counterpart will oversee completion of the project.
Established in 1971, Tishreen University, Syria’s third largest, is located in Latakia.
Tarbiat Modarres University, a wholly postgraduate Iranian university was founded in 1982 in Tehran, Iran.
