Iran should downgrade ties with IAEA: MP

TEHRAN, June 13 (MNA) -- The Majlis should downgrade ties with the International Atomic Energy Agency as a first step to respond to the imposition of new sanctions on the country, MP Esmaeil Kosari said on Saturday.

Last Wednesday, the United Nations Security Council voted 12-2 in favor of a resolution imposing new sanctions on Iran. Brazil and Turkey voted “no” and Lebanon abstained.

As the second step in response to the sanctions, MPs should revise their views on the Tehran nuclear declaration, Kosari told reporters.

On May 17, Iran, Turkey, and Brazil issued a declaration, according to which Iran would ship 1200 kilograms of its low-enriched uranium to Turkey to be exchanged for 120 kilograms of 20 percent enriched nuclear fuel.

As the third step, Iran ought to accelerate uranium enrichment in order provide fuel for the Tehran research reactor, which produces radioisotopes for cancer treatment, Kosari stated.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he said Turkey and Brazil’s votes against the resolution and Lebanon’s abstention indicate that the number of foes of the United States will increase in the future.

Commenting on Uganda, Gabon, Bosnia, and the other countries that voted in favor of the sanctions, the MP said these countries cannot decide on their own and do not have independence to act freely.

On the delivery of the S-300 missile system to Iran, he stated that Russia must deliver the system to Iran according to an agreement signed by the two countries.

If Moscow does not deliver the system, Iran will replace the S-300 system with a domestic missile system that it is currently working on, he added.
