Resolution under pressure is worthless: Iranian president

TEHRAN, June 15 (MNA) – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said that passing a resolution under pressure is valueless, a reference to the new sanctions resolution approved against Iran on Wednesday.

Speaking on the national television late Sunday, Ahmadinejad said that the U.S. managed to secure fresh sanctions against Iran by giving various concessions to some members of the Security Council.

A resolution which is passed “under pressure” and “through deals” is worthless,” the president noted.

In order to secure the support of Russia, the United States abandoned its Eastern European missile shield plan and agreed to lift sanctions on five Russian companies, which was also probably part of the payoff.

Commenting on the UN charter and its duties towards the countries worldwide, Ahmadinejad said, “Today the Security Council does not implement its defined duties. The vivid example of this can be seen in the recent assault of the Zionist regime against the Gaza humanitarian aid ships.”

Based on the UN regulations the Security Council should resolve global problems but unfortunately so far this council has acted against such regulations, he lamented.
