No talk of reducing ties with Russia at Iranian parliamentary committee

TEHRAN, June 28 (MNA) – Iranian MP Alaeddin Boroujerdi rejects reports that the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee is discussing a plan to downgrade ties with Russia.

“The issue of reducing ties with Russia has not been discussed at a (Majlis) national security committee meeting at all,” Alaedding Boroujerdi, the committee chairman, told IRNA news agency in an interview published on Sunday.

Some newspapers on Sunday quoted a lawmaker as saying the committee had discussed the issue in its recent meeting with a number of the country’s officials.

Boroujerdi said it seems that a misunderstanding occurred in reporting the remarks of Ebrahimi.

However, it is obvious that the Iranian people and government are not happy with the Russian government’s policy toward Tehran especially its ‘yes’ vote for the 1929 Resolution against Iran, the senior lawmaker and a former diplomat noted.

At least Russia could have abstained, he noted.

On June 9, the United Nations Security Council approved the fourth round of sanctions against Iran in a 12-2 vote, but Brazil and Turkey voted against the resolution and Lebanon abstained.
