Iran, ASEAN trade center opens in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 (MNA) – Iran and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations opened a joint trade center in Malaysia.
According to the ILNA news agency, the aim of this center is to enrich demand for Iranian goods in ASEAN member countries and create opportunities for investments among Iran and the body’s member states.
Representatives from Iran and ASEAN penned the founding contract of the center at the Iranian embassy in Malaysia.
Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam constitute the ASEAN members.
ASEAN spans over an area of 4.46 million km2 with a population of approximately 580 million people, 8.7% of the world population. In 2009, its combined nominal GDP had grown to more than $1.5 trillion.
If ASEAN was a single country, it would rank as the 9th largest economy in the world in terms of nominal GDP.
