German parliament foreign policy chief to visit Iran
TEHRAN, June 29 (MNA) - Chairman of the German Bundestag (Parliament) Committee on Foreign Affairs Ruprecht Polenz will travel to Tehran next week.
Heading a delegation of members of the German Bundestag’s Commettee on Foreign Affairs, Polenz is scheduled to arrive in Tehran on July 3.
The three-day visit is made at the invitation of Alaeddin Boroujerdi, the chairman of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee.
The German Bundestag is the national Parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany.
And the Committee on Foreign Affairs is a committee privileged by the constitution, since it is one of the Bundestag’s four committees that are provided for on a permanent basis by the country’s Basic Law.
As a committee that deals with a classic area of policy, it oversees the government’s foreign policy, above all in the run up to important foreign and security policy decisions. As a matter of principle, it works behind closed doors because the topics it discusses are highly sensitive.
