Clash with protesters in Canada is rights violation: Iran
TEHRAN, June 30 (MNA) - Iran’s Foreign Ministry has condemned Canadian police’s clash with people protesting the G20 summit, saying police’s behavior was an instance of “inhuman act” and a “violation of citizenship rights”.
“Applying violent tactics to suppress a peaceful demonstration cannot be justified,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast told reporters.
Police clashed with people as thousands of anti-G20 protesters marched through downtown Toronto on Saturday. Police raided the University of Toronto’s downtown campus, used tear gas against the protestors, and arrested more than 400 people.
Mehmanparast said Iran has expressed concern over the lives of the detainees and called on the Canadian government to observe the rights of detainees.
