Iran pressed for Palestine, nuclear program is an excuse
DAMASCUS, July 3 (MNA) - Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Thursday that Tehran has come under intense pressure by the West for its stance toward the Palestinian issue, saying Iran’s nuclear program is just a pretext.
“In private talks that we have had(with Western officials) they told us that Iran’s view toward Palestine is important for them,” Larijani told reporters in Damascus.
“Through these pressures they think that they can cause a change in our determination (about Palestine),” Larijani added.
He said, “Iran has been and will be on the side of Palestinian nation.”
On sanctions resolution against Iran, he said, “Do not doubt that these resolutions are not new to us… and the world today does not approve of such approaches.”
Larijani also described U.S. moves to intensify sanctions on Iran as “hollow political gestures” which are just pronounced with “loud voices”.
Larijani has visited Syria to participate in a meeting of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of the Islamic Conference Member States (PUOICM).
Larijani also dismissed media speculations that Iran and Syria has divergent views about Iraq.
“We have no difference (about Iraq). Security in Iraq will benefit the two sides and the two sides insist on formation of a unity government in Iraq.”
