Sanctions cannot hinder Iran’s progress: Ahmadinejad

BONAB, E. Azarbaijan Prov., July 6 (MNA) -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the latest round of UN Security Council sanctions cannot hinder Iran’s progress.

The Western powers only imposed sanctions on Iran to justify their existence, Ahmadinejad said at the inauguration ceremony for a major steel project in the city of Bonab in the northwestern province of East Azarbaijan.

Commenting on the domineering powers’ attempts to hinder Iran’s progress, he stated that the UN Security Council sanctions resolution is a “useless” measure that will not be able to slow down Iran’s development.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ahmadinejad said, “The Iranian nation’s vigilance has brought the hegemonistic powers to their knees.”

The peaks of progress can only be surmounted if the people are enthusiastic and courageous, but the Iranian nation believes in itself and is determined to build up the country, he observed.
