Foreign and Iranian youth to meet at art festival in Gorgan
TEHRAN, July 7 (MNA) -- A group of young Iranian and foreign artists will meet and create their artworks in Iran’s northern city of Gorgan in Golestan Province during the 17th edition of the International Festival of Visual Arts for Young Artists running from July 12 to 15.
The artists aged from 16 to 25 were selected from 16 countries among which are China, Senegal, Tanzania, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkey Kuwait, and Sudan, said the director of the Visual Office of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mahmud Shaluii in a press conference held here on Tuesday at Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art.
They will be taking part in different sections of the event together with top young Iranian artists, he added.
The participants will be competing in the different sections of drawing, painting, graphic design, cartoon, and sculpture at the Fakhreddin As’ad Gorgani Hall, he said, adding, “Two more topics, photos and pottery, have been added to this edition of the festival.
“Kuwaiti artist Mahmoud Ashkanani will join Iranian jury panel to judge and select artworks on the last day of the event,” Shaluii remarked.
Several workshops and street paintings are also arranged during the program in which Iranian artists will create their works alongside the foreign artists, Shaluii explained.
Secretary of the festival Gholamreza Montazeri, also at the conference talked about the goals of the festival. “The festival is organized with the aim of presenting a clear image of the potentials of young Iranian artists in international fields.
“Creating happiness and joy among the youth and promoting Iranian Islamic art are other objectives of the festival,” Montazeri said.
He added that several other programs including exhibition of paintings by Iranian masters, performing traditional types of sport practiced by provincial sportsmen and holding tours for the participants to visit the picturesque sites in the province are also arranged on the sidelines of the festival.
The program will come to an end with the announcement of the winners at the closing ceremony in which several ambassadors of the participating countries are expected to attend.
The festival artistic secretary, Saeid Foruzanfar also at the conference, said that the festival is an attempt to move from weak points to reach a better and higher level in art.
