Iranian actor as UN Ambassador Against Hunger visits Afghan refugees
TEHRAN, July 7 (MNA) -- UN Ambassador Against Hunger Bahram Radan arrived on Tuesday at the Shahid Nasseri Camp in Saveh, Central province, where he visited a large number of Afghan refugees in the Iranian city in the Central Province, some 120 km southwest of Tehran.
In his first act as Ambassador Against Hunger for the UN World Food Program (WFP), the Iranian actor visited bakeries and also was briefed by the Afghan people about the food distribution system in the camp.
He also met teachers of the Afghan refugees and played football with Afghan schoolchildren, the Persian service of the Fars News Agency reported on Tuesday.
Over one million Afghan refugees live in Iran. About 35,000 Afghans are housed in refugee camps.
Radan, 31, was named Ambassador Against Hunger for the UN World Food Program in April.
“I feel extremely honored to be selected as WFP’s first ambassador in Iran and am eager to cooperate with WFP in its campaign against hunger in the world,” Radan has previously said.
