Catalans get a chance to read Khayyam quatrains

TEHRAN, July 7 (MNA) -- A selection of quatrains from the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam was published in Catalan for the first time in Spain.

Àlex Queraltó Bartrés translated 157 quartets by the illustrious Iranian poet Khayyam (1048-1131 CE) from the original Persian.

The bilingual book recently released by Adesiara publications provides the original poems in Persian as well as the Catalan translation.

In the book’s preface, he called Khayyam the most widely renowned Persian poet in the West and introduced the Persian poet as an astronomer, mathematician and physician.

Catalan is a Romance language, the national and only official language of Andorra, and a co-official language in the Spanish autonomous communities of Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and Valencian Community, where it is known as Valencià (Valencian), as well as in the city of Alghero on the Italian island of Sardinia.
