Livestock markets in Kumamoto, Oita reopen

OITA, Japan, July 11 Kyodo -
Two livestock markets reopened Sunday in Kumamoto and Oita prefectures,
respectively, following a two-and-a-half-month suspension since late April due
to the foot-and-mouth disease epidemic in neighboring Miyazaki Prefecture.
The markets are located in Takamori, Kumamoto, and Kusu, Oita. Other markets in
the two prefectures will reopen in turn.
Vehicles driving into the market in Kusu were completely disinfected, while
those attending were ordered to wear suits to prevent the spread of the
disease.
Auctions at livestock markets in Saga and Nagasaki prefectures, also in the
Kyushu region along with Kumamoto, Oita and Miyazaki, have already resumed.
