Five MPs to accompany Iran's parliament speaker to Geneva

TEHRAN, July 18 (MNA) – Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani will head to Geneva on Sunday to participate in the third Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) conference which will start on July 19.

The conference will start from July 19 to 21 with the presence of parliament speakers of the member states and parliamentary delegations.

The main theme of the conference is to secure global democratic accountability.

Larijani will hold a series of meetings with speakers of the member parliaments on the sidelines of the conference. He will also elaborate on Iran’s stance on important regional and international issues, particularly those related to the world of Islam.

Five MPs will accompany Larijani in this visit, MP Javad Jahangirzadeh said.

Larijani’s entourage includes Jahangirzadeh, Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh and Kazem Jalali, all members of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, Ali Adyani-Rad, who represents Ghaem Shahr, and woman lawmaker Effat Shariati, who represents Mashhad.

The national parliaments of 143 countries are members of the IPU, and seven regional parliamentary assemblies are associate members. The IPU has permanent observer status at the United Nations.

IPU conference is held every five years; the first conference was held in 2000 and the second one was held in 2005.
