Iran's handmade carpet exports up 38%
TEHRAN, July 18 (MNA) -- Iran exported 1,600 tons of handmade carpets worth $104.9 million in the first three months of the current calendar year (started March 21, 2010).
The figure shows a 36.73 percent increase in terms of value and 38.37 percent rise in terms of volume in comparison to the same period previous year.
Iran exported 1,200 tons of handmade carpets worth $76.7 million in the first three months of the previous Iranian calendar year.
Previously, the director of Iran National Carpet Center Faisal Mardasi said that the value of handmade carpets exports will reach $500 million by the end of the current year.
He went on to say that by offering more competitive prices compared to Indian, Chinese and Pakistani carpets and adjusting the designs and colors of the carpets to global demand Iran could increase its share in international markets.
