Nissan resumes production at 4 plants

TOKYO, July 19 Kyodo -
Nissan Motor Co. resumed operations Monday at four plants in Japan after their
assembly lines were suspended from Wednesday to Friday last week due to delayed
delivery of engine-related auto parts by Hitachi Ltd., officials of the
Japanese automaker said.
Nissan plans to conduct normal operations at its plants in Tochigi, Kanagawa
and Fukuoka prefectures as well as a plant in Fukuoka Prefecture operated by
Nissan Shatai Kyushu Co. until the start of the summer vacation season on Aug.
7, the officials said.
Hitachi and Nissan are in negotiations with a Swiss-based company which
supplies semiconductors to Hitachi so that the Japanese electronics maker will
be able to provide the parts to Nissan in a stable manner after the summer
holidays, they said.
The delayed delivery of engine control units also forced Nissan to suspend
operations at two plants in the United States for three days.
