Iran will deliver response to Vienna group soon
TEHRAN, July 24 (MNA) -- Iran has prepared its response to the Vienna group and will deliver it in the near future, Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Friday.
Mottaki made the remarks at the Iran Medical Science University in Tehran.
“Various talks on how to respond to the Vienna group (the U.S., France, and Russia) have been held, and the response to the Vienna group, which has now been prepared, will be sent soon,” Mottaki said in comments about the meeting he held with European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton on the sidelines of an international conference on Afghanistan in Kabul on Tuesday.
After the meeting, MP Abdul-Mohammad Baba Ahmadi Milani said that Ashton called for the resumption of nuclear talks between Iran and the West.
Mottaki said the talks with the West have been delayed because the major powers have adopted a double-standard policy toward Iran, the MP noted.
Milani also quoted Mottaki as saying that if the sanctions policy continues, the starting date for the talks will be pushed back even further and noting that Iran will respond to any hostile action.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Milani said Ashton also called for Iran’s participation in the efforts to improve the security situation in Afghanistan.
However, Mottaki said the security crisis has intensified in Afghanistan because neighboring countries are not involved in the efforts to improve the situation, the MP stated.
