Iranian drama to grace silver screens in U.S. and Canada
TEHRAN, July 24 (MNA) -- The bitter Iranian drama “Seven Minutes to Autumn” by Alireza Amini will find ways into theaters in Canada and the United States over the next two weeks.
Starring Hedyeh Tehrani, Hamed Behdad, and Mohsen Tanabandeh, the movie heartlessly narrates the tragedy of disloyalty and family scandal.
“The movie will be released in Canada and the United States with English subtitles,” producer Jamal Sadatian told the Persian service of MNA.
“Seven Minutes to Autumn” was nominated in several categories for a Crystal Simorgh at the Fajr Film Festival last year and had the potential to become a box office hit in Iran but insufficient support squelched the opportunity, he declared.
“Amini’s ‘Seven Minutes’ is currently on stage in Iranian theaters. We expected the officials to support the film screening but the IRIB (Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting) provided no support for releasing the teaser trailer,” he said.
Ticket sales were down in the capital city of Tehran earning only about $370,000. “We decided to screen the movie during the 2010 World Cup despite that box office receipts were expected to drop sharply in Iran during the month long football games,” said the producer.
“The movie screening still is continuing in several other cities and we hope to leave the stage with good sales volume,” he said.
Mohsen Tanabandeh took the Best Actor Crystal Simorgh award for his role in “Seven Minutes to Autumn” at the 28th Fajr International Film Festival last year.
