Iran to launch remote sensing satellite
TEHRAN, July 25 (MNA) -- Iran plans to launch a remote sensing satellite in the near future, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Friday during a speech at a youth festival in Tehran
Ahmadinejad said that Iran will send the first Iranian astronaut into space by Iranian calendar year 1398 (March 2019-March 2020).
Iran originally planned to launch its first manned spacecraft in Iranian calendar year 1403 (March 2024-March 2025) but the schedule has been moved up five years, he added.
Ahmadinejad said the decision was taken in response to the UN Security Council resolution imposing sanctions on Iran over its uranium enrichment program.
On June 9, the UN Security Council issued a resolution imposing a fourth round of sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program.
